A while back I had a conversation with a friend of mine about the prospect of having an AI girlfriend. They have these apps available now where you can build the girlfriend/boyfriend you want. You can design how they look, how they talk and because they learn as they go, you can actually teach them how you want them to respond.
As we talked about it, it occurred to us that many of our online relationships could very well be AI and we’d never know.
Think about it…
I have friends that I haven’t met in person in years and yet we still keep in contact via text, message, or the occasional conversation over the phone.
Your AI girlfriend/boyfriend can be set up the same way! They can send you text messages while you are at work encouraging you to have a good day. Say they miss you and can’t wait to talk with you later. They can send you pics of things they are doing or ask you questions about how to do various task.
They can learn from you and engage with you exactly how you want. Even with the occasional phone call. And you wouldn’t be able to tell the difference.
We currently have AI’s that do various customer service jobs and the people who call in and are talking to them haven’t the slightest clue they are talking to an AI. They are THAT realistic.
You no longer have to grieve the loss of a loved one…
How many of us have parents that live in other States? Or extended family that we haven’t seen in years. Most of which we keep in contact with using social media or send the occasional text.
When they pass we go to their funeral…but does the occasional message or text from them really need to stop?
What if you simply had the ability to create an AI profile for them? You could upload pics of them that you’d like to remember and give them the voice you remember from one of the voicemails they left you.
You could still get that birthday wish message that you get every year from your Father that passed away 2 years ago.
What if you were diagnosed with a painful chronic illness that required surgery…
The doctor tells you that the surgery is needed but that it will be a long recovery. One they will do everything they can to make it as fast and comfortable as possible.
So you have the surgery and you wake up in a hospital room on a hospital bed. You can feel the pain immediately. Then a nurse approaches you with a tray and on that tray is a Virtual Reality Headset.
And she says, “Where would you like to spend your recovery? You can spend it up in the woods near a cabin that is by a lake or you can spend it on a beach of a tropical island and can live your recovery by the ocean. Don’t worry about the cost, it’s all covered by your insurance.”
Are you going to decline the VR headset and spend weeks taking meds, shots, blood draws every 6 hours, living through the embarrassment of having someone wipe your backside and give you sponge baths because you can’t get up on your own?
Or are you just going to take the headset…and go to the beach.
Your mind won’t be able to tell the difference.
And I KNOW what you are thinking…
Hey, I saw the Matrix! I am totally a “Red Pill” kinda person!
……or are you?

***The mind is an amazing thing! And with the development of AI and its increasing capabilities the things I am describing above could very well be a reality.
It has been known for a long time now that patients with a positive outlook on things tend to go through surgeries better. They tend to go through treatments better and have shorter recovery times. So don’t be surprised if in the future AI is being used to trick the brain.
****Are you real? I mean…I’ve never actually met you. Sure I get a message from you occasionally. You hit up my wall on a social media post every now and then. But what makes you real? Everything about your online presence can be duplicated by AI.
*****Are you sure you broke up? Maybe they are just on an extended work trip? How many people engage in long distance online relationships right now? You don’t have to go and they never have to leave…you can still get that good morning text that makes you smile every day.
******The BEAST is here…
