The thing about Content Creators…

It’s been said, that if you are ever looking for unsolicited advice, simply make whatever you’re doing public. You’ll get all the input you’ll ever need within hours. This is proven to be just the case with anything ever posted on Social Media. That’s been my personal experience anyway.

And half of the time I can never really predict the level of response I get. Some posts fizzle out and other posts are fire. Whether you’re simply seeking out the latest hot meme to post, posting that latest pic on your camera roll, cropping vids for a Reel, or uploading your tutorial.

One thing is abundantly clear: Content Creation is a real thing and it’s a much bigger business than most people realize.

That’s right, creating and posting content on social media sites is a business. In fact, it’s currently over a 32 BILLION dollar industry and is expected to grow over an additional 13% by 2030.

Read. That. Again.

Think about that for a minute.

Remember that stupid little cat video you watched the other day? Or that clip of the lady jumping rope? Yeah, those videos are all a part of that.

Some people actually whine about people who posts pics of their food on social media. But ya know if you do that enough and you get people to follow you, comment on your posts, and genuinely like to see what you’re eating next, you can actually make money. That’s right, you can MAKE MONEY FOR POSTING PICS OF YOUR FOOD.

ISN’T THAT CRAZY!?

And the fascinating thing to me about all of this, is there are still quite a few people out there that simply don’t get it. They’ll come on the thread under a post of a video or meme and tell the person who posted it to, “Get a real job!” or say some other negative comment telling the person who posted whatever it was to stop doing what their doing. Basically professing their ignorance to the world.

For the most part, I just ignore comments like that. Because they ARE ignorant comments. Unless and until they get really rude. Then I feel like I am obligated to speak out against it and I do my best to heckle them for posting such an ignorant comment.

WHY, you ask?

Because the people who are taking the time to create these funny videos that we laugh at or learn from often have other jobs that they’re working. And they have simply started doing something they enjoy doing and realized that they can make a bit of money doing it. So they are the hustlers in life. They are the ones that are putting in the time and effort to make their lives better by making us laugh or learn.

Those people don’t deserve to heckled. They don’t deserve to be criticized.

You don’t have to “like” every thing that they post or comment on every one of their threads. But at the very least you could recognize that their effort and consistency in posting their content is contributing to the experience that has made social media so popular and fun.

You can argue whether or not you think that’s a good thing, but it will fall on deaf ears with me.

So the next time you come across a vid, meme, or food pic online…

GRASP. THE. CONCEPT. of what it is that you are seeing or reading. The posts aren’t arbitrary. The videos aren’t actually random. Most of what you see on social media is calculated and planned. In some cases, thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours are put into the content you’re seeing. And you have NO IDEA how much money your “click” or comment is worth.

No. Frickin. Idea.

***Ever see those videos of people doing something wrong, like the one where the lady puts window washing fluid in her cars oil? Or the one where the lady uses the can opener to open a Pillsbury biscuit can? Yeah, they do that on purpose. Because they have discovered that people HAVE to comment on videos like that. To tell them they’re doing it wrong. By pandering to peoples desire to correct, they increase their views, which boosts their place in the algorithm. Which makes them more money.

****Support your content creators!! “Like” and comment on their posts! It helps them and costs you nothing! Did you know that “Stars” are worth a penny? You can give people “Stars”, which helps them, and it won’t break the bank!

*****As a content creator you can make more money creating content for people to view than most people earn working a 9 to 5. “So why don’t you do it, Jacob?!” Well, I’m not funny or that talented. Not to mention the fact that content creation takes WORK! Make no mistake, it takes a lot of work and you have to be consistent. Which, I am absolutely not. I can’t even commit to putting out a consistent blog. BUT! I do get a bit each month from Facebook for posting meme’s! So there is that! Haha!
