What are you waiting for?

I’ll admit, I’m weird. I tend ta do things different than most people and I have very little patience when it comes to getting something done. Which is why I really have a hard time grasping the concept of waiting on a raise, or a promotion, or anything that involves improving the quality of my life.

Don’t get me wrong, I can be patient when it comes to a process; like I’m three steps into a five step process. That I can deal with. Sure, I may look for a way to shorten the process. But if it takes five steps to complete the process, then I’ll gladly keep myself busy while the process is going.

What I don’t understand is why people will work hard, put in the hours, do the work, etc. and then wait for someone else to notice that they deserve to be paid more money. They’ll come in early, work late, go above and beyond in their role of whatever position they are in and then wait to be passed over on a promotion. Only to be told the same thing, “Work harder, put in the hours, etc.”.

Listen, there’s nothing that says you can’t pursue more than one thing in this life. You can have multiple things going. In fact, that’s pretty much how I live my life. I have lotsa irons in the pot. Why? Because I tend to get bored easily and I like to have options.

So, stop waiting for permission from your employer to earn more money. Stop waiting for your boss to recognize that you deserve a promotion. Stop looking for the approval from lessor people to start improving your life!

LESSOR PEOPLE: People with less knowledge, less work ethic, less skill, less tenacity, less vision, etc. than YOU!

You know who I am talking about. I bet you can think of a handful of names of people at work that you know you could school in their job duties if given a chance.

So quit waiting on people like that. I’m not saying don’t apply for the position or ask for the raise. I’m simply saying, stop having so much of your life invested in it. Whether or not you get the raise or promotion should be inconsequential to your life. If it’s not, then you need to work to make that so.

Don’t let the fear of failure prevent you from stepping out there and creating something for yourself. Creating something that doesn’t force you to eat the scraps that some turd above you thinks you should get.

Kick those pikers to the curb and create what you want without them. Ten years from now they’ll still be the turds they are in the turd positions they’re in. Don’t be one of them. Make your own mark and control your own destiny.

So you didn’t get the raise? So what. You didn’t get the promotion or job you wanted? Who cares.

You can apply for lots of jobs all at once. There’s nothing that says you have to take any of them. You can keep applying every week to the same job. You can keep asking your boss for a raise. What do you think is going to happen? Either you’ll get it or you won’t. If you continue to pursue what you want, eventually you’re gonna hit it. That’s just how it works.

But no one is saying it has to come from the job or position you are currently in! So branch out. Use your time off to pursue different avenues that will get you what you want. Just don’t quit.

You don’t have ta be a freak like me, with multiple plates spinning. But you do need to quit putting all of your eggs in one basket and stop waiting for the approval of people that are lessor than you!
