…the life we have chosen

Go to school, come home, eat dinner, watch t.v., go to bed, go to school, come home, eat dinner, watch t.v., go to bed…this is the life you have chosen.

Go to work, come home, eat dinner, watch t.v., go to bed, go to work, come home, eat dinner, watch t.v., go to bed…this is the life you have chosen.

Get the car, get the job, start the business, get the mate, have the kids, get the mortgage…this is the life you have chosen.

Day in and day out, Monday through Friday, the 80 hour work week, routine, schedule, weekend “breaks”; family bbq’s, dinners, trips, etc. A new couch, a coat of new paint, a few hours spent on the project car or garden each week, making money, spending money, sAviNg fOr rEtiReMeNt…this is the life you have chosen.

The debt, the bills, the notices, the expenses, a new credit line, a thirty year mortgage, a roof that needs mending, a dishwasher in need of repair, tires for your car…this is the life you have chosen.

The love, the laughter, the loyalty, the relationships, ties, bonds, marriages; the lies, manipulations, betrayals, infidelity, distrust, break-ups, arguments, fights, misunderstandings, divorce…this is the life you have chosen.

The life you have chosen…did we?

This is the life…is it?

This is it?

Where are the dragons I dreamed about? What knight is there to face? Show me the castle walls that need scaled. Direct me to this perilous sea that needs crossed.

THIS is the life that YOU have chosen!

Routine. Structure. The mundane. People love it. Naturally gravitate towards it. It’s safe. Provides that mindless feeling of accomplishment…kudos from colleagues, friends, and some family. But what risk is there in doing what everyone else is doing?

What if…there was something different, something unique…out of the ordinary out there? Would you even see it or even recognize it? Or are you so bound in your thoughts of the way things go that you’d miss it?

That’s crazy!…So what. Big deal. Who cares. The collective will always criticize the one who stands out of line.

the life you have chosen

….then I choose to forgo the proverbial box; I’ll gladly give my portion of it to another…I choose to deny the pattern that is happening so prevalent around me…I’ll seek out and embrace that which is unusual, unique…different. I’ll learn new terms, study that which is not custom to study…learn new skills and circumnavigate the globe at MY leisure. Step OUT of the boat, with the storm raging all around me, to stand on the footing that is there or sink to the depths knowing that I was willing to get out of a boat that so many gleefully ride to their deaths. I will persist in that pursuit. The life that I have truly chosen…uninfringed or manipulated by the masses; unyielding and tenacious, until my heart gives out or I am forced to explore the grave.

THIS is the life I choose.
