Isolation 2020

I don’t think when this thing first started people had even the slightest clue what was coming or what it would mean for them. I know I didn’t. Ya see stuff on the news and it seems so far away. Just not something you ever imagine is going to be on your door step. But here we are. The mad dash for toilet paper isn’t funny anymore and the lack of it on our shelves is the least of our worries. Schools are closed, businesses are shut down. Signs are popping up all over telling people to stay at least six feet away. People are being laid off work. Many are running low on funds and wondering if they’ll even get a last paycheck. And this is just the beginning. Things are set to get worse.

We added an additional 3,000 people infected with the virus in the U.S. within a few hours today; and an additional 30 people have died within the same time frame. This is surreal. In spite of these new numbers, my thoughts on the virus and its spread remain the same. I am 100% confident in our present technology and the medical advances that we have available today to combat and control this virus. My concern…what’s been on my mind, what keeps me up at night is: Toilet paper.

Think about that. We had plenty of toilet paper. Shelves were fully stocked. Rows and rows of beautiful toilet paper. Routinely delivered. Day in and day out, fully capable of meeting the demands of any given community. And then, we didn’t. Shelves were suddenly bare. Empty. Deliveries that would normally last a few days, were sold out within an hour. A limited supply of a product with a seemingly unlimited demand, equates to having a lack of product…or service.

Now, I’m not a math guy. I still count on my fingers. And the thoughts of things like this are way beyond my pay grade. But if we only have so many beds in a hospital and only so much medical equipment, just enough, to perfectly manage the level of sick in a population on any given day, and then suddenly we happen to have more sick than we do beds…what happens? Where do we put people who need medical attention? And if there are only so many doctors and nurses, just enough to service the amount of sick on any given normal day…you see where I’m going with this?

So why then, do we still have so many people not taking this thing seriously? Why do we have so many people still behaving like it doesn’t affect them?

Sure, you may not get sick. Sure, if you get sick you’ll probably recover; if you get the treatment you need when you need it. But what about those that don’t? What about those who get exposed and lose their lives over this? Are we so detached as a society that we consider the death of those around us to be inconsequential? Do you honestly think this isn’t going to affect you? Are you truly that ignorant.

The Stock Market had over a 10k point drop in under two weeks. Countries all over the globe have shut down their flights coming into their country. People have stopped going to work and may possibly face losing their homes or being evicted. Congress has a 2 Trillion Dollar “Corona Bill” they’re fighting over in the Senate. And some of you, are still going on about your day as if nothing happened? Nothings changed? So oblivious to your surroundings and the world around you, you arrogantly refuse to self isolate and/or limit your going out because…?

*You have a great immune system

*This is a government conspiracy to impose Martial Law and enslave people

*China orchestrated this to prevent Trump from being re-elected

*Trump did this so he could cancel the election and stay in office

*You heard the virus only targets “Boomers” and you hate old people

*YOLO

….the list goes on from there and believe me, I think I’ve heard them all.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not suggesting you should suddenly panic. But you are a total fool if you think you won’t be affected by this. Total fool. This will directly affect you, on some level, in some way. The economy is taking one hell of a massive hit right now. One that the ramifications of it are somewhat unpredictable. I don’t really think there is anyone that truly knows how this is going to turn out. But one thing is certain…it’s going to take a long time to get things square; and we probably won’t be looking at things the same way.

So maybe you should think about that.
