The need to avoid pain. Type sevens aren’t too keen on discovering themselves. They love to discover everything that is outside themselves; but when confronted with what’s within, they avoid it at all costs. They’re very popular. Everyone loves a seven. Their inherent desire is to avoid pain. Anything that makes them feel uncomfortable or requires any real depth of feeling. They’ll avoid it like the plague.
Instead, they will fill every negative thing they encounter with positive words of affirmation, witty one liners that focus on the positive, and they’ll move on. Filling their days with triumphs and “adventures”. Because everything is an “adventure” to them. It has to be, you see, life is simply too daunting a task of reality without pursuing the adventure of it. Reality sucks. So what better thing to do, than to avoid it?
It’s not like they don’t recognize the mundane; they simply reject it. For them, people who live mundane lives are simply not experiencing the joy of life. To them, everything in life needs to have a positive spin on it. Everything is wonderful. Even when it isn’t. They avoid the reality of life with filling it with things to do, goals to reach, and adventures to go on. All so they won’t have to actually stop and take a candid look at who they are, and what they have become. Honesty, with themselves and others is not a high priority. In fact, they avoid that too.
It’s not like they don’t love a true test or challenge; they do, but it’s more of a way to elevate themselves to some sort of level that allows them to feel good about themselves. As a result, they tend to be heavily into fitness and anything revolving around sports or adventure. Anything that requires their utmost attention; so they can avoid actually “being present” during the messy interactions of family or friendships. They love trophies though. So becoming a trophy for them always helps. Anything that helps boost their popularity amongst their perceived peers. They move a lot. There’s always something better right around the corner.
Type sevens are the other of the nine personality types that struggle with narcissism attributes. They often find themselves quite impressed with themselves and their abilities. This can result in quite the alienator for people unfortunate to be around a negative type seven. Often becoming somewhat of a “prop” in their background. They’ll use avoidance to put off responsibility to pursue personal goals. Their need to achieve comes before family. It’s all about them.
As a result, the root sin of a type seven is: Gluttony. So intent on the superficial that type sevens fail to reach deep enough to truly develop a genuine relationship with God. Type sevens need to stop. Commit themselves to prayer; and truly seek what God has planned for their lives. Instead of working to avoid the pain they feel; they need to address it. Work to come to a place of redemption and allow others to truly see who they are; without the masks they have worked so hard to use to hide themselves.
Some suggested study scriptures for type sevens would be: Proverbs 28:7, Luke 12:19-20, Matthew 23:25, 2 Peter 2:13-14, Phillipians 3:19-20, Proverbs 25:27, Colossians 3:1-2, 1 Corinthians 10:31, 1 Timothy 4:8, James 4:7.
