Type Three: The Achiever.

Success at all costs. Type threes possess the inherent desire to succeed in everything they do; and they aren’t afraid to step on the backs of the people around them to do it. Type threes are highly driven, highly motivated, to perform in everything to do. Being “competitive” is an understatement for these folks.

Their biggest fear is of being perceived as worthless or a failure. So they’ll spend countless hours of their days striving to succeed or be the best at something.

Type threes can be incredibly deceitful. Especially if telling a “white lie” will in some way propel them to the place or position they are striving to be. Type threes are one of two Enneagram types that wrestle with behaviors of narcissism. They can be perceived as being quite in love with themselves. All the while masking the deep feeling of self loathing and disdain.

In fact, type threes root sin is: deceit. So afraid to confront their inner turmoil of failure they will reject any thoughts of “not being good enough” and replace them with thoughts of positive affirmations about themselves. Type threes know HOW to be honest. But they avoid honesty with themselves because they feel it takes away from their productivity; and they’ll justify their dishonesty with others because they feel internally that they ARE the better candidate for whatever reward or position they’re striving for, so their “small lies” are warranted. They feel “owed”.

Type threes need repentance. An acknowledgement of sins and true forgiveness. Only then will type threes truly be free from the internal pain and conflict that haunts them; and find themselves in a place of truly caring about other people.

Mature type threes can be great business partners, outstanding role models, and great friends, IF they can learn to put the needs and desires of others above their own.

Some suggested study scriptures for type threes would be: Proverbs 28:13, Acts 8:22, Matthew 3:8, 2 Chronicles 7:14, Acts 2:38, Romans 2:5, Proverbs 26:24-26, Colossians 2:8, 1 Peter 2:1, Proverbs 20:17.
